SHILPGRAM FESTIVAL in UDAIPUR
The saddest part of the human race
is we're obsessed with this idea of 'us and them,' which is really a no-win
situation, whether it's racial, cultural, religious or political.†-- By Dave Matthew
True but not in the case of the
cultural diversity of Udaipur which holds a wide place in our hearts and keeps
away from racism or any other negative emotion as the Rajasthani Culture
whole-heartedly welcomes fine craftsmanship and diverse traditions and cultures.
Shilpgram in Udaipur is a rustic art
and crafts complex and acts as a theatre which unfolds diverse range of colours
of different cultures including the tribal Kalbeliya Tradition, the Royal
Rajputana Tradition and many others such as the Assamese, Bengali, Marathi and
various other cultures in the form of Dances and other famous and signature
characteristics of that very particular tradition.
All these events occur at Shilpgram
during the one and only SHILPGRAM FESTIVAL happening every year during the
winter season which marks the end of the year and is an evident of the fact
that Rajasthani Culture always shines the brightest and ends each year with a
blast signifying the quote “UNITY IN DIVERSITYâ€.
The Shilpgram Fest or MELA in Udaipur
is planned every year from 21 December to 31 December marking the end of the
year or you can say welcoming a new scholastic year with a celebration
diversified in different cultures.
The Shilpgram Mela is a series of
various cultural and traditional programs and serves as a hub for the tourists
interested in local tribal artists who excel in the artworks like embroidery,
hand woven clothes, mirror works, hand-stitched woollen garments and
handicrafts.
The Shilpgram festival also encourages
the urban potters, visual artists and designers and the cottage production of
Rajasthan. The Shilpgram Festival provides occasion for learning the craft
skills through various workshops organised during the event.
Apart from all this, if you are a
FOODIE and love ravishing, spicy and tangy Rajasthani taste, this place is your
ecstasy as the SHILPGRAM Festival is a bliss and has many food stalls which
attracts not only the local crowd but also the foreign people who cannot resist
the fragrance of this amazingly mouth-watering dishes.
Situated within the city premises,
Shilpgram Festival is a must-go-to if you are planning to schedule your visit
to Udaipur anytime around New Year as this gives you a chance to indulge in the
cultural diversity and take a break from the old-school ways of celebrating the
